Open call for documentary film camp DocuSprouts 2019

Two generations of DocuSprouts are already behind us. This year, we decided to cross borders and merge parts of the Balkan region through the creative work of youngsters from North Macedonia, Albania and Serbia.

MakeDox, in collaboration with the Academy of Film and Multimedia Marubi from Tirana, Albania and the Free Zone Junior program from Belgrade, Serbia, is looking for fresh DocuSprouts at the age of 15-18 who would like to take part in this year’s creative documentary film camp DocuSprouts 2019.

How to apply?

Send us a video (any format, 5 min. max) and introduce yourself by answering some of the following questions in English:

  1. How do you escape reality when you are not dreaming?
  2. Which animal or plant would you be if you could choose?
  3. Tell us your first memory.
  4. If you would meet a donkey that talks, what do you think it would tell you and why?
  5. Which documentary do you find most impressive why?
  6. What story do you want to tell and what makes it different from the rest?
  7. Tell us a ‘fun fact’ about yourself
  8. How would you feel and what would you create if you escaped your comfort zone and had no internet access for a week?

Send your video to [email protected]  through WeTransfer. If possible, upload and password protect the video on YouTube or VIMEO and send us the link and the password.

IMPORTANT: The call is open till June 23, 2019 and the results will be announced till June 25, 2019. Please have in mind that a week after the announced results, you will need to pack your bags, get your valid passport and provide a parental consent letter (or a letter by a legal guardian) as a permission to participate in the camp.

The documentary film camp DocuSprouts will be held during the MakeDox *Travelling Cinema and it will last 7 days (July 5- 11, 2019). At the camp, the participants will take a close look at the realm of documentary films through the knowledge and skills of the members of MakedDox, the professors from the Academy of Film and Multimedia Marubi and other foreign friends of MakeDox who are well-established docu-professionals. We are looking for young people who are free and brave enough to express themselves creatively, being ready to step into an unforgettable adventure. During the time at the camp, we will help you develop your ideas for documentary films. If our stars align, three of the total number of ideas will become documentaries in the following year.

The participation in the camp is free. The costs for traveling, accommodation and food are covered, however, please have in mind that the accommodation at the *Travelling Cinema is not a five-star hotel but a unique experience shared with the team of MakeDox, at times even in the open air under a starry sky.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to write us at [email protected]!

*The Travelling Cinema is an integral part of MakeDox that takes place in the rural areas of North Macedonia. This year, the Cinema will visit the villages of North Macedonia and Albania located around the Ohrid Lake.

The new generation of DocuSprouts 2019 is provided and supported by the Western Balkan Fund, in partnership with the Academy of Film and Multimedia Marubi from Tirana, Albania and the Free Zone Junor program from Belgrade, Serbia.
