Master class: Jean-Pierre Rehm

Master class moderator is Jelena Maksimović, a filmmaker, docent at the Faculty of Media and Communications, and a regional co-selector of Free zone festival

Jean-Pierre Rehm has studied modern literature and philosophy at École Normale Supérieure in Paris. He taught history and theory of art and film at different art schools, and he also worked for the Ministry of culture in France. He was a curator for the various exhibitions across the world, in renowned institutions such as: Modern art Museum in Cairo, Yokohama art centre in Japan, Witte de With in Rotterdam, La Caixa foundation in Barcelona. He regularly writes for different journals and catalogues, as well as writing monographic publications about directors and artists such as Roee Rosen, Tsaï Ming-liang, Mark Lewis, William Eggleston, Jimmie Durham, Peter Friedl, Jacques Rozier, Isidore Isou etc. His reviews for journals Cahiers du Cinéma and Cinéma and Trafic are also notable. Jean-Pierre Rehm is the director of International film festival in Marseille (FIDMarseille) since 2001.

FIDMarseille, together with Cinema du Reel in Paris, has been the most renowned documentary film festival in France. Alongside the experimental form documentaries, different hybrid genres, videos, feature films, as well as retrospectives for renowned directors, like Chantal Akerman, Tsai Ming Liang, Ben Russel i Ben Rivers. The fact that the directors from the territory of former Yugoslavia had the opportunity to showcase some of their movies during this festival is also important. These people are Mladen Kovačević, Dane Komljen, Stefan Ivančić, Marko Grba Singh, Matjaž Ivanišin, Damir Čučić etc.

Jean-Pierre Rehm will present a master class, the focus of which will be the new tendencies in modern movies.  Jelena Maksimović, a filmmaker, docent at the Faculty of Media and Communications, and a regional co-selector of Free zone festival will be leading the discussion.

The class will be presented in English language.
