The issue of housing, as well as the right to the city, has become one of the most important issues that has existed in the last few decades. The right to adequate housing is one of the rights recognized in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), which also obliges the Republic of Serbia. However, this right is increasingly threatened. Rising real estate prices, underdeveloped social housing systems, as well as forced evictions, lead to the exodus of the poor from urban centers, the rise of homelessness and, consequently, the threat to other human rights of individuals.

Although the housing situation has a trend that is negatively affecting citizens, associations and movements around the world are trying to come up with solutions to avoid a social disaster. Different models of association with tenant cooperatives are only one possible way out. There are also campaigns that call for a more inclusive social housing system, and we have an example of Berlin launching a massive campaign to nationalize housing in the hands of large corporations. In this panel, we will try to capture the different experiences of home fighting and analyze their success in securing a basic right to adequate housing.
