In partnership with the Free Zone Film Festival, the Film Center of Serbia and the Media Platform of Serbia – the Balkan Documentary Center from Sofia, organizes the third module of BDC Discoveries program in Belgrade from November 1st to 5th. The first two modules were previously realized in Sofia and Prizren.

With seven teams that developed throughout the year documentaries with international potential and multimedia dimension, three selected Serbian tandem producers and directors will work in Belgrade.

Within the BDC Discoveries, the festival program will be enriched with the screening of Turkish documentary film “Bağlar” on November 4th at 4 pm in Dvorana Kulturnog centra, hosting both authors and directors Melis Birder and Berke Bas.

The movie “Bağlar” is about the youngest basketball players in Bağlar, which is quart of Turkey’s largest Kurdish city, struggling to enter the national league and, with the help of sports, overcome the political problems in which they grow up. At the last year’s film festival in Sarajevo he received the Special Jury Award.

After screening the movie, we will have panel discussion on the topic of regional film placement in the world.

For the last eight years Balkan Documentary Center (BDC) has established itself among the main facilitators for the documentary scene by providing high-profile training, expert support and networking possibilities for a wide range of professionals. BDC has been recognized from both funders and creators as the innovative link between the Balkan region and the rest of Europe. It is a physical space, a historical building in downtown Sofia, and a virtual network and support system for the documentary sector that is filling a painful niche for fruitful collaborations based on daring stories and unapologetic talent. Balkan Documentary Center stays behind two of the most acclaimed training programmes – DISCOVERIES for projects in development, and DOCU ROUGH CUT BOUTIQUE, in collaboration with Sarajevo FF, for docs in a rough-cut stage. BDC has strong presence on the European film market and nurtures long-term partnerships with leading film festivals. BDC creates a unique environment for ongoing networking and training activities, building a base for free speech and competitive critical-minded audio-visual projects.

Continuing to the last year, BDC Discoveries has again received the support of MEDIA program Creative Europe this year, and a Belgrade workshop was organized in cooperation with the production house Wake Up Films from Novi Sad.
